Banklash is a multi-year research project, hosted by the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford, seeking to understand how banks and the rules that govern them have become objects of democratic political contestation since the Great Financial Crisis of 2007–8.

The project focuses on six countries with significant banking sectors: Australia, France, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The project has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Grant Agreement No. 787887).

The title of the project refers to the popular backlash against large banks in the wake of the financial crisis, where the interests of Main Street and Wall Street were perceived to have been differently served by the bailout policies devised in the heat of the crisis. The various elements of the project aim to illuminate the workings and interaction of public opinion, media coverage, and policymaking in the wake of the crisis.
